APSCO cubset Competition 2023-2026

The Glacier Monitoring and Disaster Prediction mission aims to develop a low Earth orbit Cubeset to monitor glaciers in the Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush mountain ranges. These regions house the largest number of glaciers outside the polar regions, making glacier monitoring crucial for understanding global environmental significance. The mission leverages the capabilities of a 3U Cubesat to observe Pakistan's glaciers, focusing on their environmental importance and predicting glacial lake formation. Glacier monitoring is vital for managing freshwater resources, mitigating downstream flood risks, and addressing climate change impacts on regional and global water systems. Moreover, glacier melt contributes to rising sea levels, making it a global concern.

The mission has four primary objectives: glacier monitoring, glacial lake prediction, supporting disaster preparedness, and raising awareness. By tracking glacier dynamics, ice melt, and glacial lake formation, the mission addresses environmental concerns, aids disaster prediction, and safeguards vulnerable populations in the face of climate change.
